1. In the Homer’s ‘The Odyssey’, Odysseus depicts the character epic hero qualities. As in one instance, he blinds the Cyclops Polyphemus by naming himself as ‘nobody’, and save his crew from death, by tricking him smartly. To learn about his fate, odyssey travels to Hades. When he reaches Ithaca, to claim his rightful place he takes upon on all Penelope’s suitors by stringing his famous bow.

Qualities:
•He shows his cunning. He lies to Polyphemus by telling him that his ship is destroyed by Poseidon and disguise himself by naming himself as ‘nobody’. Hence when odyssey blind him and Polyphemus shouts for help “nobody is killing me!” his brother doesn’t come for help thinking he is alone.
•Another instance where odyssey demonstrates his cunning is when he knows that it’s only Polyphemus who a move the boulder from the cave’s entrance he cleverly makes Polyphemus drink wine till he gets to pass out. Later he blinds Polyphemus and when Polyphemus opens the entrance and odyssey and his men escape the cave.
Flaws:
•To make sure that Polyphemus must know about Odyssey and who ruined him, odyssey boasts about himself and tell about how he tricked him. Therefore, this leads Polyphemus to curse Odyssey and this curse leads to the death of his crewmen and makes his voyage to home difficult.
3. The archetype refers to the kind of person who is above all and often leads everyone. Odyssey is an archetype as during the Trojan war he obtained the title of ‘hero’ in other terms possessing god-like powers or traits. Though he was self-centered and often boasted about himself, he took charge of his men and lead his crew through his cunning and wit.
