Because of Gregor's transformation, he is not able to provide for his family any longer. This means that, even thoguh they had depended on him for so long, his family now have to look for jobs and be responsible for their own lives. This has a good impact on both the father and Grete. Grete is able to get out of the house more often, and she takes a sales job. She starts learning skills that would help her in her future, such as shorthand and French. All this shows that Grete undergoes a positive transformation.
