According to U.S Energy Information Administration, the an average home costs 12.3 cents per kW-h in January 2017. For consistency, convert year to hours. In a year (365 days), there are 8769 hours.

12.3 cents/kW-h * 0.5 kW * 8769 h = 53929.35 cents = $539.2935
