The War of 1812 was basically a do-over for the British. The British believed that if they were to challenge the newly minted American country that they might be able to take their territory back. Despite popular belief, our national anthem was not written in the Revolutionary War but during the War of 1812. The British believed too heavily in their own abilities and were defeated once again by the Americans, after which a long standing friendship between the two countries began to form.
