El complejo sináptonémico se forma en la fase temprana de la profase 1. Asegura la alineación de los cromosomas homólogos, al igual que una cremallera que mantiene los cromosomas homólogos en alineación (sinapsis) y la recombinación de estos cromosomas. Por este complejo asegura una segregación cromosómica precisa, en la metafase 1

The synaptonemic complex  is formed at early phase of pro phase 1.It  ensures the alignment of homologous chromosomes,  just like a zipper which holding homologues chromosomes in alignment(synapsis) and recombination of these chromosomes..Therefore  at meta phase I, the accurate paring  aided by this complex ensures accurate chromosomes segregation.
