Marx believed that communism would replace what?

History

Answer: Marx formulated Communism as a theory (of a new type of society). Word Communism can be understood as 1) doctrine, philosophy, theory, 2) movement (national, international) and 3) regime. Marx experienced 1 and 2 but not 3. According to his theory Marx believed Communism would be "the end of history"...the final, i.e. perfect stage of human history (perfect example of a linear view of history), which means it would replace all the previous (imperfect) stages of history (where people were "evil" to each other).

Explanation: Marx believed (as J-J Rousseau did) that evil resides in society, in the way it is structured. He did not belive that evil resides in men themselves. Freud, Jung, Adler and others corrected that later.

How was Social Darwinism used to justify imperialism?
MAXImum [283]
Because Social Darwinism is a mash between "Survival of the Fittest" and socialogy, races and political groups/parties fought to be at the top. It's natural for large groups in population to think they are better than the rest and given the example of Hitler, Benito Mussolini, etc., it's not hard to see who Europeans think they are. The first option is most likely correct.

It is a common misconception that the Emancipation Proclamation freed all of the slaves. What did it actually do?
GarryVolchara [31]
Despite that expansive wording, the Emancipation Proclamation was limited in many ways. It applied only to states that had seceded from the Union, leaving slavery untouched in the loyal border states. It also expressly exempted parts of the Confederacy that had already come under Northern control. Most important, the freedom it promised depended upon Union military victory.

Although the Emancipation Proclamation did not immediately free a single slave, it captured the hearts and imagination of millions of African Americans, and fundamentally transformed the character of the war from a war for the Union into a war for freedom. Moreover, the proclamation announced the acceptance of black men into the Union army and navy, enabling the liberated to become liberators. By the end of the war, almost 200,000 black soldiers and sailors had fought for the Union and freedom.
