Answer:

The atmosphere formed before the oceans.

Explanation:

According to estimates, the emergence of the atmosphere occurred approximately 4 billion years ago. Its formation happened when the planet Earth, after having suffered a huge warming, began to cool, then from its interior was being expelled water vapor, and a considerable amount of gases, among other elements. They headed toward outer space, but a portion settled around the planet, an event provided by gravitational force.

The origin of the oceans is closely linked to the formation of the atmosphere and the cooling of the planet and the formation of the lithosphere. It is from the atmosphere that at least 50% of the water that fills the ocean basins came from (another 50% is believed to be from meteorites). And it is from the weathering of the rocks that form the lithosphere that most of the ions that form the salts of the seawater came.

The first ocean basins date from the Archean, between 3.6 and 3.9 billion years, or about 1 billion years after the formation of the planet. It is important to note that the early oceans should have quite different composition from the present one, in that they partially reflected the composition of the atmosphere. The increase in the amount of oxygen on the planet would only have occurred about 2.2 billion years ago.
