Hello!

The Missouri plan is a method for the selection of judges created in Missouri, 1940. This method establishes a non- partisan comission in charge of reviwing candidates for judicial vacancies. This comission sends the list of candidates to the governor and he (or she) has to choose.

This system has been criticized by many politicians since the it is dominated by attorneys who have blurred the ideology of the courts. Attorneys choose the candidates according to their own ideologies and for this reason most governors preffer a federal system in which they designate the judges with the Senate since the Missouri Plan causes political interference.

Hope this helps.

The Missouri Plan (originally the Missouri Nonpartisan Court Plan, also known as the merit plan, or some variation) is a method for the selection of judges. It originated in Missouri in 1940 and has been adopted by several states of the United States. Similar methods are used in some other countries. The Missouri plan

Under the Plan, a non-partisan commission reviews candidates for a judicial vacancy. The commission then sends to the governor a list of candidates considered best qualified. The governor then has sixty days to select a candidate from the list. If the governor does not make a selection within sixty days, the commission makes the selection.
