Answer:

Subject: A young boy does his homework but gets it wrong.

Theme: Physical punishment is not only painful but also humiliating.

Explanation:

In this passage, we encounter a young boy who says that he has done his homework. However, it is implied that the homework is wrong ("Now we’ll have it right from someone"). It seems like the boy's father, who is a barman, did the homework for him. Because of this mistake, the boy is physically punished, while the teacher and the students make fun of his father's background. This supports the theme that physical punishment is not only painful, but also humiliating.

How did miss thomas react when bud arrvied at grand calloway station
Firdavs [7]

Answer:

I do not see a choice of answers, but I hope that this helps you.  Miss Thomas notices that Bud is full of insect bites on his face and hands.  She finds out that he was bitten by hornets when he was locked in the Amos' shed.  Bud goes on to tell her about who his father is and the story continues.  One time at the Sweet Pea, he was crying.  She comforted Bud by putting his head up to her chest and singing to him.  She shows him the house and that he will be sleeping in a dead girl's room.  He is scared that she is going to haunt him.

Explanation:

Miss Thomas is the singer in Herman E. Calloway's band.  She becomes a maternal figure for him.  She tucks him in at night and takes care of him.  Miss Thomas is how he learns some interesting things about his mother and he will soon discover that Herman is his grandfather - not his father.

Irina-Kira [14]
In general, an emotional appeal is "an appeal that addresses the reader’s feelings" as opposed to an appeal to the reader's rational and pragmatic side. It is often seen as a weaker form of reasoning.

if one uses a term like "giant shrimp", one creates a) An allusion b) A paradox c) Sarcasm d) An oxymoron
Allushta [10]

Answer:

d) An oxymoron

Explanation:

A figures of speech is also referred to as figurative language and it can be defined as a deliberate and specific construction or use of language by writers, authors or speakers to create a special effect in their speech or literary work (write-ups).

In English literature, the main purpose of the figures of speech (figurative language) is to convey more information and enable the readers or listeners have a deeper understanding of a literary work. Some examples of the figures of speech (figurative language) used in literature are simile, paradox, metaphor, apostrophe, hyperbole, personification, oxymoron, etc.

An oxymoron can be defined as a figurative language that comprises of words or phrases that are contradictory.

This ultimately implies that, an oxymoron involves the intentional use of words or phrases that have opposite meanings.

Hence, if one uses a term like "giant shrimp", one creates an oxymoron because shrimps are small in all ramifications and cannot be referred to as a giant.

In conclusion, "giant shrimp" qualifies as an oxymoron because the words "giant" and "the small nature of a shrimp" are contradictory i.e have opposite meanings.
