Answer :

The three ways to show that 7/8 is greater than 5/6 are:

(1) Same denominator method

Multiply top and bottom of each fraction by the denominator of the other.

\frac{7}{8} and \frac{5}{6}

To make the same denominator we will multiply top and bottom of each fraction by the denominator of the other.

\frac{7\times 6}{8\times 6} and \frac{5\times 8}{6\times 8}

\frac{42}{48} and \frac{40}{48}

That means, in the same denominator, more numerator value will be greater than the other.

\frac{42}{48} > \frac{40}{48}

\frac{7}{8} > \frac{5}{6}

(2) Same numerator method

Multiply top and bottom of each fraction by the numerator of the other.

\frac{7}{8} and \frac{5}{6}

To make the same numerator we will multiply top and bottom of each fraction by the numerator of the other.

\frac{7\times 5}{8\times 5} and \frac{5\times 7}{6\times 7}

\frac{35}{40} and \frac{35}{42}

That means, in the same numerator, less denominator value will be greater than the other.

\frac{35}{40} > \frac{35}{42}

\frac{7}{8} > \frac{5}{6}

(3) In decimal form

\frac{7}{8}=0.875

and

\frac{5}{6}=0.833

Thus, \frac{7}{8} > \frac{5}{6}

You could also use a ruler or some other measuring device for (2). You can also draw a picture of a circle with the denominator as the slices, and the numerator as the shaded areas, then compare both fractions together for (3).

sergij07 [2.7K]

There is 46% probability of experiencing neither of the side effects.

<h3>What is probability ?</h3>

Probability shows possibility to happen an event, it defines that an event will occur or not. The probability varies from 0 to 1.

Given that,

While taking drug, chances of experiencing nausea (n)= 24 %,

Chances of experiencing decreased sexual drive (d) = 46 %.

Also, there are 60% chances of experiencing both side effects.

Use vain diagram to solve this type of questions,

Total chances of experiencing side effects = 8 + 30 + 16 = 54

The chances of experiencing neither of the side effects = 100 - 54 = 46

So there is 46% probability of experiencing neither of the side effects.
