Bill started west on road U.S. 50, riding a bicycle at an average rate of 9 mph. Four hours later Charles started after Bill on

a motor cycle and overtook him in 2 hours. What was Charles' rate? Which equation could be used to solve for Charles' rate if it is represented by x? 2x = 36 2x = 54 6x = 54

Answer:

2x=54

Step-by-step explanation:

We  have to find the equation which could be used to solve for  Charle's rate if it represented by x and

Let Charle's rate =x

Bill's average rate=9 mph

Relative rate =x-9 mph

Distance traveled by bills after 4 hours=9\times 4=36 mph

Time taken to overtake

Time=\frac{Distance}{relative rate}[tex]Substitute the values then we get [tex]2=\frac{36}{x-9}

Using cross multiplication property

Then we get 2(x-9)=36

2x-18=36

2x=36+18

2x=54

Hence, option b is true.

Stephen, Gavin and Jim share some sweets in the ratio 4:1:2. Stephen gets 30 more sweets than Jim. How many sweets are there alt
Kamila [148]

Answer:

105 sweets

Step-by-step explanation:

There are 4 + 1 + 2 = 7 parts in total

Stephen gets 4 parts (or 4x)

Jim gets gets 2 parts (or 2x)

Given,

Stephen gets 30 more than Jim, we can write:

Stephen = Jim + 30

or

4x = 2x + 30

We can solve for "x":

4x = 2x + 30\\4x-2x=30\\2x=30\\x=15

There are 7 parts of sweets altogether (or 7x), we know x so:

There are:

7 * 15 = <u>105 sweets</u> altogether

Solve the systems using substitution.<br><br> − 2x − 5y = − 5<br> x = 5y − 20
Law Incorporation [45]
-2(5y-20) - 5y = -5
-10y + 40 - 5y = -5
-15y + 40 = -5
-15y = -45, y = 3
x = 5(3) - 20
x = 15 - 20, x = -5
Solution: x = -5, y = 3... or (-5,3)

The formula for the surface area of a right prism is LaTeX: A=2B+PhA = 2 B + P h. Solve for LaTeX: hh. Which equation gives a co
qaws [65]

Answer:

h = \frac{A - 2B}{P}

Step-by-step explanation:

A = 2B + Ph

Required

Solve for h

A = 2B + ph

Subtract 2B from both sides

A - 2B= 2B - 2B+ ph

A - 2B= ph

Reorder

Ph=A - 2B

Divide through by P

h = \frac{A - 2B}{P}
