Answer:

We get to do some time-traveling in this poem. Lowell jumps around frequently and without warning. We begin in South Boston at the aquarium that's been closed and boarded up for what seems like a long time.

Then we move back in time with the speaker to when he used to visit the aquarium and gawk at the fish. When he snaps out of that daydream, he recalls a more recent past ("last March" specifically) when he witnessed the construction of what would become an underground parking garage. Included in that same scene is the Civil War memorial for Colonel Shaw (we'll get to him in detail later), and his all-black infantry.

Then Lowell sneakily segues into a little info about the Civil War, and later, the dedication at the memorial. He stays more or less on the track for a handful of stanzas: he talks about how New England continues to remember the Civil War in graveyards and tattered flags, but how that memory is diminishing.

Then he sort of pops back into the present, with a somewhat critical eye. He talks about World War II and how there are no commemorative statues for that war. To wrap up, he winds the image of Colonel Shaw and the old aquarium's fish together, and sort of superimposes them over slow-moving traffic in present-day Boston.

The word condemnation best describes which situation from “The Pigman & Me”? Select all that apply.
denis23 [38]

The correct answers are indeed option A "Paul hits John with the paddle" and option D "Paul’s sister attacks Moose". The meaning of condemnation is to sentence someone to a punishment. In these cases they were performing very bad actions. Even though, Paul was nervous and he didn't know what he was doing, the fact that he hit John with a paddle is condemnable. Also, Paul's sister attacking Moose is a condemnable act.

Which statement BEST summarizes the passage?
bogdanovich [222]

A letter from Roderick Usher which gave a nervous agitation in itself was the basic outline that summarizes this passage.

Explanation:

Roderick Usher was one of narrator's companions in his boyhood. It has been several years since he last met Roderick. A letter, which was very personal, was received by the narrator now. In the letter, there was a message about a mental illness that depressed him both, physically and psychologically.

In the letter, the narrator could feel how empty and lonely Roderick was feeling because of the words he used to express his pain.

The statement: An earnest desire to see me, as his best and indeed his only personal friend, a view of attempting some alleviation of his malady (grief) - best describes the passage
