Which sentence from Washington Irving's short story "Rip Van Winkle" is an example of indirect characterization?
SpyIntel [72]

The correct answer is D. "In fact, he declared it was of no use to work on his farm; it was the most pestilent little piece of ground in the whole country..."

Explanation:

Indirect characterization refers to showing the traits of a character including personality, appearance, values, etc. through the character's actions, words, and decisions. This is the opposite of direct characterization in which the character is directly described.

Option D is an example of indirect characterization because by showing the action of the character " he declared it was of no use to work on his farm" the reader can know this character is lazy or does not like to work, which means the narrator uses the actions of the character to show how the character is.

Ksenya-84 [330]
The expectations is supposed to be someone beautiful, sweet, and generous. The reason why it is so hard to be that is because people have different expectations of someone beautiful and people have different thoughts of someone being generous or sweet. So if you want to be Miss America you would have to change you, which is very irresponsible of the people who made this, I don't think you should judge someone on how they look or sound and you shouldn't have to change to appeal to an audience or certain group of people, you should be who you are do what you have dreamed of and succeed it.
