The excerpt from "Fish Cheeks" by Amy Tan, that is most clearly an example of conflict is c. then my father poked his chopsticks just below the fish eye and plucked out the soft meat. "Amy, your favorite," he said, offering me the tender fish cheek. I wanted to disappear. This shows an internal conflict in a character, is mental struggle than comes from opposite demands. The narrator's favorite dish is fish cheeks, but she doesn't want to take it in front of the visitors. The narrator is fourteen, she has a crush on the Minister's son. The whole minister's family is invited to Christmas Eve dinner. She is afraid of what they would think about their "shabby Chinese Christmas", their noisy relatives and their Chinese food. During dinner, she feels ashamed of her father's manners.
