the hole had side lengths of 3 inches, how much wood was left after the hole was cut out?

Are they asking for the new volume? Because if that's the case you have to find the original volume of the block (11•11•11) then find the volume of the hole (3•3•3) and subtract the volume of the hole (27) from the volume of the block (1,331) giving you a new volume of 1,304. Hope this helps
