The US had nothing to do with the war before this point. Pear Harbor was a completely unprovoked attack. It caused the US to enter the war.

Anyway, many Shinto people have harsh practices. Most of the time, as a warmup you would hang from a rope by your head and balance for 2 hours. Then, punch stacks of paper against a brick wall for 2 hours, head bang into a bag for 2 hours, and be on a headstand for 2 hours. Everyday, for 2 years.
