I disagree, the soviet union was already spending so much in military, there was no way that just because they were competing that that’s why the united states won, the united states was also already spending so much it was a cold war. The united states won because of all the allies they had to stop the spread on communism, and then the iron curtain came down.
One of the main reasons why Bismarck wanted to control the territories of Alsace and Lorraine was mostly because both territories were plentiful and useful territories to have in any country as they were quite developed. It was also good for strategic reasons.
