Sources can be classified into primary or secondary sources. In the case of primary sources, these are any type of source including written documents, photographs or artifacts that are created or take place during the event or situation being studied and usually the author of this sources experienced or witnessed the events they describe which mean primary sources work as a first-hand account of an event. On the other hand, secondary sources are sources that analyze, summarize or discuss primary sources, this means the authors of these sources were not part of the event and not necessarily create the source shortly after the event occurs.
Considering this, if you need a primary source for knowing about the response of Japanese leaders to the bombing of Nagasaki the first primary source is the "transcripts of speeches" as these are the written record of the words said by the Japanese leaders and therefore a first account or the original account of their responses. Also, other resources such as encyclopedias, almanacs or atlas are secondary sources and you might not find enough information to know about the responses of the Japanese leaders.
