  The Draconian Code of law was an Athenian written law code created near the end of the 7th century BC.

  By the mid of the 7th century, many Greek societies had codified basic laws but in Athens, the laws were still oral so the aristocracy manipulated them and provided unequal access to legal knowledge.

  Draco was commissioned to devise a written law code and constitution by the people of Athens. Such a code would be placed at a central location where anyone could reach and read it. Draco received the title of the first legislator in Athens and was an early manifestation of the Athenian democracy.
