During 2008, the United States lived one of the most difficult economic crisis in recent history due to the Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae crisis that put the US banking system on the brink of a major breakdown. To make a long story short, through 2001 to 2007 housing bubble came to an end and the mortgage security industry generated a big credit and financial crisis. The biggest since the Great Depression that started on October 29, 1929, after the US stock market crashed. So, during the following years, people find very difficult to find jobs until the federal government took serious measures to help banks that improved the situation.
