Gabriela Mistral's real name was Lucila Godoy Alcayaga. She was a famous diplomat, an educator and humanist. The extent of her popularity can be deciphered from the fact that the 5000 Chilean note bears a portrait of hers.

Further Explanation:

Gabriela was born poor and spent the major part of her life in abject poverty. Her earliest publications were poems such as Dreams and Intimate Letter in a local news paper. She suffered emotionally following the death of her first love and estrangement with her second love and her sadness were reflected in her works. Sonnets on Death which was published in 1914 was her first work that caught attention of the readers. The depth of her perception when it came to the idea of death and life in general marked her apart from the other writers. Her first book called "Desolation" was released in 1922. "Tenderness", her second book followed two years later (1924).

Emotions such as sadness and bitter feelings were portrayed in her works vividly. She also worked as a teacher in a rural suburb partly because she was very fond of children and she went on to include this in her writing as well. Overall, her contribution to literature was immense in the ways of portrayal and therefore justifies her as a twentieth century representative of the Latin American literature.

According to the Declaration of Independence what are the three most basic rights
il63 [147K]
According to the Declaration of Independence, the three most basic rights are the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Notice it doesn't give a right to happiness because no one can guarantee someone's happiness, it just says that there should be an opportunity to try for happiness.
