the Epic creates a parallel to the bible and the society of Mesopotamia nearly 4,000 years ago. Gilgamesh is known to be the first great hero, and the epic is known as the 'first great masterpiece of world literature'. The Epic of Gilgamesh recounts the tale of the hero-king of ancient Mesopotamia.The poem was written by a priest named Sin-leqi-unninni, who was thought to have compiled it from a number of ancient legends. Although he was described as the son of the goddess Ninsun and possessed a great strength, Gilgamesh was a willful, arrogant ruler until the gods send the beast-like Enkidu to be his companion.
