Plants and animals that live in estuaries face a dilemma in maintaining water balance inside their cells. During high tide they
jok3333 [9.3K]

Answer:

The correct answer is "a hypertonic solution".

Explanation:

Seawater is the most clear example of a hypertonic solution in nature. The concentration of ions in seawater are far more superior than the concentration of ions inside a plant or an animal cell, since seawater have an osmolarity of about 1000 mOsm/l. Therefore, at high tide a plant or animal cell will be in a hypertonic solution, and the cells must have adaptions to avoid cell shrinking and dead.

Suppose that in unicorns, two autosomal loci interact to determine the type of tail. One locus controls whether a tail is presen
Nina [5.8K]

Explanation:

As you can see in the picture below, this is a dihybrid cross with a twist.

We can accomplish that mutually parentages are heterozygotes for both characters because the genotypes are

9 unicorns with curly tails (shown in green)

3 with straight tails (shown in red)

3  curly tales trait carriers with no tail (shown in dark blue)

1  straight tail trait carriers with no tail ( shown in light blue)

If this was an ordinary case of the dihybrid cross, we would get a 9:3:3:1 phenotype ratio.

However, since the first trait, the presence of the tail, is affecting the other trait, the trait texture, the ratio is altered.

\frac{1}{4} of the offspring (genotypes tt C_   and tt SS) has no tail, therefore we cannot observe the texture of the tail (some of the tailless individuals have Curly alleles -blue squares marked with green, some of them have Straight alleles -blue square marked with red ).

Therefore, the altered ratio is  \frac{1}{2} curly tails,\frac{1}{4} straight tales, \frac{1}{4} tailless

3. Why is it easy to describe an organism's phenotype for a particular characteristic but
JulsSmile [24]

Answer:

The sum of an organism's observable characteristics is their phenotype. A key difference between phenotype and genotype is that, whilst genotype is inherited from an organism's parents, the phenotype is not. Whilst a phenotype is influenced the genotype, genotype does not equal phenotype

Which kind of relationship would a dog and a tick have?
tatuchka [14]
A dog and a tick would have a parasitic relationship. Seeing as how, if anything, the tick is harming the dog and the dog isn't getting anything in return, but the tick is getting both a food supply and a host, their relationship would be classified as parasitic.

How does calcium form an ion?
dmitriy555 [2]

Answer: By losing its two outermost electron

Explanation:

Calcium is a element that belongs to group 2 in the periodic table. It has an atomic number of 20, and an electronic configuration of 2, 8, 8, 2.

Hence, to form an octet structure, it gives off its two electrons as shown below:

Ca <----> Ca2+ + 2e-

Thus, by losing its two outermost electrons, a positively charged calcium ion (Ca2+) is formed
