Answer:

Option C

Explanation:

Aerobic respiration produces large amount of energy in the form of ATP as compared to anaerobic respiration. In general, 38 ATPs are produced in aerobic respiration per glucose while in anaerobic glucose only 2 ATPs are produced per glucose.

Due to this high energy gap, aerobic organisms are dominant on earth as compared to anaerobic respiration. Also aerobic organisms have more diverse physical structure as compared to anaerobic respiration.

Hence, option C is correct

The true statement about anaerobic respiration is that it yields less ATP than aerobic respiration. This implies the correct answer is C

Anaerobic respiration involves the transfer of energy from glucose to cells. It takes place without the presence of oxygen.

Further Explanation

The individual body sometimes cannot provide the required oxygen for the muscles to create energy and without the transfer of energy from glucose to cells; our muscles won’t have required oxygen to function properly such as in sprinting situations. Anaerobic respiration is the process that takes place mostly in microorganisms.

The first stage involves in respiration is Glycolysis; it is the stage whereby glucose molecules are broken down to form to pyruvate molecules. During the first stage, electrons are also released and produce two molecules of ATP.

However, the presence of oxygen during aerobic respiration means the pyruvic molecules will move through other stages that involve the release of more electrons and large amount of ATP are produced

But, if there is no presence of oxygen (anaerobic respiration), the other two stages that provide more electrons are bypassed. The pyruvate molecules are also transformed into various byproducts through the process of fermentation, carbon dioxide is released and two ATP molecules are also produced.

Therefore, the true statement about anaerobic respiration is that it yields less ATP than aerobic respiration.
