  • The answer is:

B. African American men were granted the right to vote.

  • Only days after the end of the American Civil War, in 1865, Frederick Douglass, elected president of the <u>Convention of Black Americans</u>, spoke during a meeting of the African Slavery Society, explaining why the black men required the right to vote and the need to make justice for them. Here is an excerpt of what his speech:

<em>“…If the Negro knows enough to pay taxes to support government, he knows enough to vote; taxation and representation should go together. If he knows enough to shoulder a musket and fight for the flag for the government, he knows enough to vote…What I ask for the Negro is not benevolence, not pity, not sympathy, but simply justice.” </em>

  • Thus, in 1869, while this issue was being discussed in the Congress, 150 black men from several states gathered for the <u>Convention of Black Americans</u>, which took place in Washington, D.C. and was the first one in the U.S. history.
  • After debating in the Congress, the 15th Amendment, which granted male African American the right to vote, was finally adopted in 1870. Moreover, the Article 1 of such Amendment states that <em>"The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.” </em>

Elizabeth Cady Stanton adding authority to her declaration of sentiments by

Answer:

Elizabeth Cady Stanton and The Declaration Of Rights and Sentiments

by Margaret Watson

In 1848 Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott organized the Seneca Falls Convention in New York for the purpose of discussing social, civil, and religious conditions, and the rights of women.  It was the first convention held for such discussion.  From this meeting emerged a declaration establishing the goals of the women’s movement to gain equal rights as citizens of the United States and as human beings.

The Declaration of Rights and Sentiments as written by Elizabeth Cady Stanton at that time was closely modeled on the framework of the Declaration of Independence which was ratified on July 4, 1776, proclaiming the independence of the    thirteen American colonies from Great Britain.  Thomas Jefferson is usually given credit as the main author of this document although John Adams and Benjamin Franklin added their observations, and the Continental Congress made additional changes before its ratification.

The Stanton and the Jefferson Declarations are both organized through the use of a tight, logical argument structure called a categorical syllogism, consisting of a major premise, a minor premise, and a conclusion that validly follows both.

How did western democracies react to Nazi Germany taking over neighboring countries?
azamat
World War II is appropriately called “Hitler’s war.” Germany was so extraordinarily successful in the first two years that Hitler came close to realizing his aim of establishing hegemony in Europe. But his triumphs were not part of a strategic conception that secured victory in the long run. Nonetheless, the early successes were spectacular. After the defeat of Poland within a month, Hitler turned his attention westward. He believed that it was necessary to defeat Britain and France before he could again turn eastward to the territories that were to become the “living space” for his new empire. The attack on the Western Front began in the spring of 1940. Hitler took Denmark and Norway during the course of a few days in April, and on May 10 he attacked France, along with Luxembourg, Belgium, and The Netherlands. Once again his armies achieved lightning victories; Luxembourg, Belgium, and The Netherlands were overrun in a few days, and France capitulated on June 21. Only the British, now alone, obstructed Hitler’s path to total victory in the west.
