In the 1870s, groups of women begin merging from church meetings to nearby salons. Then up in prayer on the saloons four or on the street to block the entrance. The main reason women did this was to ask for alcohol drinking limits in the US. These active women were concerned not only with religious beliefs but also with social matters and health care. They formed part of the Temperance movement which began at the beginning of the 19th century and aimed to make American people aware of the alcohol consequences, such as violence, corruption and any other immoral act. The Temperance women, who were particularly middle-class Protestants, encouraged people to pursuit Christian values. In 1873, the Women's Christian Temperance Union was founded and became concerned with women’s rights, suffrage and international social justice.

https://socratic.org/questions/how-were-the-west-african-kingdoms-involved-in-the-slave-trade

With the development of the trans-Saharan slave trade and the economies of gold in the western Sahel, a number of the major states became organized around the slave trade, including the Ghana Empire, the Mali Empire, and Songhai Empire. However, other communities in West Africa largely resisted the slave trade.

The transatlantic slave trade began during the 15th century when Portugal, and subsequently other European kingdoms, were finally able to expand overseas and reach Africa. The Portuguese first began to kidnap people from the west coast of Africa and to take those they enslaved back to Europe
