Answer:

The first option which is:

1 - characteristics that remain in the common ancestor and the modern organism

2 - characteristics that are new and have been modified from what was found in the common ancestor

Explanation:

Shared characteristics are divided into 2 namely;

Shared Ancestral Characteristic

If a characteristic is found in all of the members of a group, it

is a shared ancestral character because there has been no

change in the trait during the descent of each of the members

of the clade. Although these traits appear interesting because

they unify the clade, in cladistics they are considered not

helpful when we are trying to determine the relationships of the

members of the clade because every member is the same.

And the Shared derived Characteristics

It is called a shared derived character because:

character derived from the ancestor is new and has been modified.

Do you think that bacterial uptake of a plasmid from the environment is a common event? why or why not?
snow_tiger [21]

First Plasmid is a chromosomal element often a circular DNA.

The uptake of a plasmid from the environment is NOT a common event reason being, bacteria naturally take up DNA from their environment in a process called transformation. Thus if a bacterium takes up a piece of DNA that cannot be maintained in a cell then that cell will not survive.

After learning about several of the body systems, Jon tells the class that the digestive system and respiratory system have one
Valentin [98]

The correct answer is option D, that is, Jon is correct because the respiratory system removes waste from the body by ridding it of carbon dioxide when we exhale, and the digestive system removes waste from the body in the large intestine where the waste is sent and removed through the rectum.

The respiratory system functions to provide adequate oxygen for the proper functioning of the body and at the same time works to remove the waste products like carbon dioxide via the process of exhalation.

On the other hand, the function of the digestive system is digestion and absorption. It digests the food components into smaller pieces, and helps in the absorption of nutrients from the food, the leftover undigested food, or waste is excreted out through the rectum. Hence, both respiratory and digestive system exhibits one common function of excretion of waste materials.

Why would muscle cells need hundreds more mitochondria than any other cell in the human body?
postnew [5]

Answer:

Mitochondria is the Powerhouse of the cell.

Explanation:

You use your muscles for basically everything you do. So, it wouldn't be more surprising if the muscles need more energy. You need them to have more energy or you wouldn't be able to do anything.
