Here's how to recognize the graph that goes with each of these functions:
f(x) = (x + 3)(x + 7) and f(x) = 11(x + 3)(x + 7) both have zeros (x-intercepts) at
x = -3 and x = - 7; notice how f = 0 in either case.
Similarly, f(x) = (x – 3)(x – 7) and f(x) = 3(x – 3)(x – 7) both have zeros at x = 3 and x = 7.
f(x) = (x + 3)(x + 7) f(x) = (x – 3)(x – 7) have not been stretched vertically, but both f(x) = 3(x – 3)(x – 7) and f(x) = 11(x + 3)(x + 7) have been stretched in that manner.
