A persuasive essay is exactly what a persuasive writing is. It is trying to persuade or convince you to do something on a specific topic. An advertisement is a commercial. They are trying to persuade, or convince you to buy their products or the things they are selling. An editorial is a newspaper article with an opinion on a specific subject, and the author is trying to persuade or convince you to take their side on the subject. A short story, however, is not trying to persuade or convince you to do something on a specific topic. Usually short stories entertain you or inform you of something, not persuade you to do something.
