The Tutsis and Hutus are the major ethnic group in Rwanda. The Tutsis were dominating the economy and politics than the Hutus. This led to the animosity between the ethnic groups.

Habyarimana who was the President at that time was a Hutu and his plane was shot down by an unknown missile. This led to the Hutus using it as an excuse to kill the Tutsis.
