Answer: American imperialism can be defined as policies which are aimed at extending economic, political and cultural control over areas that are outside the United States of America. That is, the US intervened in political and economic issues in countries outside of The country.
The First cartoon is a satirical depiction which captured the infatuation Americans had with imperialist and expansionist policies in 1898.
The second political cartoon depicts a before and after. The before shows the Spanish colonies ( Porto Rico, Hawaii, Cuba, and the Philippines) before intervention by America. While the after shows these same colonies after they have been removed from under oppression. The differences between the two are obvious, for example the colonies can be seen as free and no longer enslaved. Some can say the cartoons are quite exaggerated, with the top figures described as “oppressed” by the weight of industrial slavery until America “rescued” them, and turned them to successful businessmen seen on the bottom half.
These depictions and images show America in a good light, as heros who have been of aid to border countries. But America today may be said to be guilty of the same oppression especially on 3rd world countries today.
Some of the political cartoons featured in the chapter include the Americans being agressively intervening in various socio economic issues mostly to their southern neighbors.
