=> (1/4)a + (1/5)b = 440 (2)

From (1) and  (2):

=>(1/4)(2000 - b) +(1/5)b = 440

=> 500 - (1/4)b + (1/5)b = 440

=> (1/20)b = 60

=> b = 20 x 60 = 1200$ (current balance of Benjamin)

=> a = 2000 - b = 800$ (current balance of Alex)
