(6 - 4i)²

use square of difference;

6² - 2 × 6 × 4i + (4i)²

use multiplication distributive property;

36 - 2 × 6 × 4i + 4²i²

36 - 2 × 6 × 4i + 16i²

36 - 2 × 6 × 4i + 16 × -1

36 - 48i + 16 × -1

36 - 48i - 16

(36 - 16) - 48i

20 - 48i

hope that helps, God bless!

How does -2x + x equal -x ?
shepuryov [24]

Answer:

See below.

Step-by-step explanation:

-2x+x=-x

because we combine like terms. You will essentially ignore the x and just do -2 + 1, which is -1. So, the answer would be -1x which is simply just -x.

To see why we can combine like terms, use the distributive property. So we have:

-2x+x

This is the same thing as saying:

=(-2)x+(1)x

Factor out the x:

=x(-2+1)

Add:

=x(-1)

And simplify:

=-1x\\=-x

Solve this system of linear equations. Separate the x- and y- values with a comma.
liubo4ka [24]

Answer:

(-1,4)

Step-by-step explanation:

Using elimination, add the two equations to get rid of the y variable.

17x = 43 - 15y

+8x = -68 + 15y

=25x = -25

<u>x = -1</u>

Now plug in -1 for x in any of the equations.

17(-1) = 43 - 15y

-17 = 43 - 15y

-60 = -15y

<u>y = 4</u>

Simplify, using the distributive<br> property.<br> 5f + 16f = (5 +?)f=?f
Soloha48 [4]

Applying the distributive property, we would simplify the expression as: 5f + 16f = (5 + 16)f = 21f.

<h3>How to Apply the Distributive Property?</h3>

The distributive property states that, ab + ac = (b + c)a.

Using the distributive property, we have:

5f + 16f

= (5 + 16)f

= 21f

Therefore, 5f + 16f is simplified as 21f.

Which of the following is an extraneous solution of StartRoot negative 3 x minus 2 EndRoot = x + 2? x = –6 x = –1 x = 1 x = 6
tester [92]

The extraneous solution is x=-1 and x=-6

Step-by-step explanation:

Given the question as;

\sqrt{-3x-2} =x+2

Eliminate the root in the left hand side

(\sqrt{-3x-2}) =x+2\\\\\\(\sqrt{-3x-2}  )^2=(x+2)^2\\\\-3x-2=x^2+4x+4\\\\0=x^2+4x+3x+4+2\\\\\\0=x^2+7x+6

solve the quadratic equation by factorization

Find multiples of 6 that add up to 7-------- 1*6

Rewrite the equation as;

x²+7x+6=0

x²+6x+x+6=0

x(x+6) +1 (x+6) =0

(x+1)(x+6) =0

x+1=0

x=-1

or

x+6=0

x=-6

The roots are, x=-1, and x=-6
