Slavery would spread to the west due to the wide, flat land perfect for farming and plantations. As a result of overpopulation and the desire to find gold, individuals began to migrate west, taking their slaves along with them.

El gran filósofo griego Aristóteles -discípulo de Platón- estableció sus criterios par definir los géneros literarios en su obra "Poética de Aristóteles," documento elaborado entre el 335 y el 323 AC. Después de establecer la definición de esos géneros, Aristóteles se refirió a los subgéneros literarios como subgénero narrativo, subgénero, lírico, y el subgénero narrativo.

En el dramático incluyó a la comedia, la farsa, la tragedia y el melodrama.

En el lírico incluyó la oda, el romance, la canción, el soneto, y el himno.

En el narrativo incluyó  la nivela, el cuento, la épica, la fábula y la epopeya.
