Broom Dog is a short story by Jason Reynolds about a boy whose mother get hit be  school bus while controlling traffic outside a school. The boy get afraid of walking home. He get panic attack whenever he sees his mother on the road and any school bus coming towards her. So, his teacher makes him a broom dog. The boy would run his fingers through broom dog when he would see his mother on the road in order to comfort himself. In the end he has completely overcome his fears and is ready to walk home without needing a broom dog.
