The correct answer is genetic material of sperm and egg combined.
Fertilization is the fusion or joining of the egg and the sperm (haploid gametes), resulting in a fertilized egg, otherwise known as a zygote (diploid). The process of fertilization is very complicated and comprised of many steps, but the key step involves components of and signalling between, both sperm (spermatozoa) and egg (oocyte).

The process that accomplishes fertilization is the combination of the genetic material of the sperm and the egg. When sperms reaches the oocyte, enzymes break down the follicle cells of the corona radiata around the oocyte. Once a path is cleared, sperm undergoes an acrosomal reaction (acrosomal membranes break down and enzymes difest holes in the oocyte membrane). Membrane receptors on an oocyte pull in the head of the first sperm cell to make contact. Fertilization occurs when the genetic material of a sperm combines with that of an oocyte to form a zygote.

Mendel spent years crossing pure bred pea plants together to observe their phenotypes. One consistent pattern he observed is tha
Svetradugi [14.3K]

Answer:

D (purple flower plant is dominant)

Explanation:

Gregor Mendel was regarded as the "Father of Genetics" because of his outstanding contribution to discovering the pattern of inheritance. In his experiments with purebreeding purple and white-flowered plants, he discovered that the F1 offsprings were all purple-flowered.

This observation made him to propose his LAW OF DOMINANCE, which states that one allele of a gene is capable of masking the expression of another in a heterozygous state. In this case of flower colour gene, the allele for purple color (P) is masking the gene of the white colour (p) in a combined state. Hence, purple allele is said to be DOMINANT over white allele.

He discovered that the white allele was being masked when he performed a dihybrid cross i.e. F1 self cross to derive a plant with white flowers.
