Suyan is the mother of Jing-Mei Woo. She wanted her daughter to learn piano in any case even if she does not want to. She puts her daughter in to rigorous piano training. She is settled in America after losing her mother, father and Husband.  

She comes from China where she had abandoned daughter of her. Suyan kept on pestering her daughter to learn piano but she was never interested in that and it was one of the failures in her life as she considered it as a big deal. Suyan passed away years later.
