Describe one of the strongest literary images (not a picture or drawing from the reading) you encountered
Nina [5.8K]

A strong literary image is the one that causes the reader impact of what he is reading as he can see the mental image and have a strong reaction about it. In the first case "Of Wolves and Men" by Barry Holstun Lopez, the author express the necessity of the wolf's preservation creating a compelling picture of the wolf as a real animal and as imagined by man. This is important for the animal's preservation but is not a strong literary image.

In the second case "Al Gore" in his exposition talks about Global Warming, it was a well-received politically documental in many parts of the world and is credited for raising awareness of how global warming will affect us internationally and with horrible consequences. It's a strong literary image but not at the moment it will be catastrophic in a few years.

In the third case "The Deadliest Tsunami in History? by National Geographic News", talks about the earthquake in 2004 that generate the great Indian Ocean Tsunami, more than 150,000 people were dead or missing also many remain homeless in 11 countries. This was the most destructive tsunami in history. It's a strong literary image because it was very strong for a lot of people but it's a natural phenomenon so no one could prevent it.

In the fourth case "Orphans Give Indian Couple Will to Live; 2004 Tsunami Killed Their Son, Two Daughters" by Shaikh Azizur Rahman, this is most strong literary image of all because this is a touching story as the couple lost his children and feel the pain to live without them, they decided to rescue orphans and give them all that they can't give to their children anymore. This is a change in perspective as the couple loses the reason to live, the orphans give them a new hope and reason for continuing living. This is touching for people and it's also very strong.

Finally in "Wave" by Dale Wisely there is a poem about water as an element that gives life and that is strong as a literary image but that is not always so memorable as the images related to natural disasters and family stories.
