Item 29 Read the passage. I’d figured my manuscript would land in the slush pile with all of the others that the publisher didn’

t solicit. I’d thought that at best an intern would read it and email me something to the effect of “Thanks, but no thanks.” So you can imagine my astonishment when an editor called me and told me that not only had my manuscript been accepted, I was also going to get an advance. That early paycheck allowed me to focus on revisions (and there were plenty of them!) without worrying about how I would pay rent. The day my galleys arrived was surreal. I combed through the pages of words—my words—realizing that my book would soon be born. And even though the font wasn’t final and the illustrations weren’t included, I felt like I had finally become a real author. What does the word advance mean in the passage? payment for revising a manuscript payment before publication of a book payment based on the percentage of the sales of a book payment before a manuscript is accepted

Answer:

Payment before publication of a book.

Explanation:

From the given passage, it is evident that the speaker is talking about how he was relieved and happy to have finally got his book accepted. Moreover, he also revealed that he had been given an advanced payment for that same manuscript.

In this regard, the word "advance" refers to the advanced payment given to him before the publication of the book. An advance is something that is given before the actual execution of the deal or agreement between the parties, in this case, the publication of the book.

Thus, the correct answer is the second option.

can someone plzz wright a small informational letter about Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata and take your time there is no rush
pickupchik [31]

Answer:

Dear (Insert what ever name you want),

Did you know that Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata means Mondscheinsonate in German? I found this out just a few (insert your time you want here. Ex. days, minutes, seconds, years, etc.) This name Moonlight Sonata was not given until the 1830's by Ludwig Rellstab, though the song was made in the 1800's. Ludwig Rellstab decided to name it Moonlight Sonata because it reminded him of the moon setting over Lake Lucerne. An even more interesting theories is that Beethoven proposed to Giulietta, and that she was inclined to marry him. Many say this song is romantic, over sad.

Sincerely,

(Insert your name here)

Which sentence in the excerpt supports the claim that the American colonies could drive independently from Britain
oksian1 [2.3K]
If your choices are the following:
A. I have heard it asserted by some, that as America hath flourished under her former connection with Great Britain that the same connection is necessary towards her future happiness, and will always have the same effect.

B. We may as well assert that because a child has thrived upon milk that it is never to have meat, or that the first twenty years of our lives is to become a precedent for the next twenty.

C. But even this is admitting more than is true, for I answer roundly, that America would have flourished as much, and probably much more, had no European power had any thing to do with her.

D. The commerce, by which she hath enriched herself, are the necessaries of life, and will always have a market while eating is the custom of Europe.

Then the answer is B.

How does First Church in In His Steps compare with your idea of what a church should be?
Zielflug [23.3K]
My idea of the church is that they help those people who are in need and needs nothing in return if they have done a deed so great. That the church would always follow the example of Jesus Christ, his teachings, his understanding and above all, his love for mankind.
