In the  4th century, Emperor Constantine I decided to honour Peter with a basilica, by the end of the 15th century, the reconstruction of the church began in a new style. Donato Bramante, Michelangelo, Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Carlo Maderno designed the present church in the 15th century.
