The Tories were a political faction and then a political party in the parliaments of England, Scotland, Great Britain, Ireland and the United Kingdom. Between the 1670s and 1830s, the Tories contested power with their rivals, the Whigs.

The Chinese first emperor united China by force. He governed by the concept of legalism which   advocated clear rules and heavy penalties as a way of enforcing the state authority. On the other hand the Roman emperors ruled with a concept of people are good and therefore need to be good.

 Over a period of centuries, differences built up between the Latin and Greek branches of the Churches over many matters, both large and small. The most important of these were differences over the introduction of the filioque clause to the Nicene Creed and the ordination of married priests. The issue that really prevented any genuine attempts at compromise was the insistence in the west that pope was the leader of the entire Church.
