Answer: Achilles is the more heroic of the two. Achilles and Hector were both one another's downfall. Hector was viewed as the only person to take on Achilles, so both mutually agreed to leave one another alone. It wasn't until Hector killed Patroclus by stabbing him in the stomach with a spear, that enraged Achilles to the point of murdering Hector. Hector originally wanted to battle Achilles to avenge his country and defend it against future Greek attacks, and he mistook Patroclus as Achilles because Patroclus was wearing Achilles's armor. If it weren't for his own pride, Hector could've prevented the deaths of thousands and the ultimate loss of the Trojan war.
