Heat produced = -13588.956 kJ

Further explanation

Given

The reaction of combustion of Methane

CH4(g)+2O2(g)→CO2(g)+2H2O(g) ΔH∘rxn=−802.3kJ

271 g of CH4

Required

Heat produced

Solution

mol of 271 g CH₄ (MW=16 g/mol0

mol = mass : MW

mol = 271 : 16

mol = 16.9375

So Heat produced :

= mol x ΔH°rxn

= 16.9375 mol x −802.3kJ/mol = -13588.956 kJ

General Chemistry fourth edition by McQuarrie, Rock, and Gallogly. University Science Books presented by Macmillan Learning.
Helen [10]

Answer:

3.07 Cal/g

Explanation:

Step 1: Calculate the heat absorbed by the calorimeter

We will use the following expression.

Q = C × ΔT

where,

 • Q: heat absorbed
 • C: heat capacity of the calorimeter (37.60 kJ/K = 37.60 kJ/°C)
 • ΔT: temperature change (2.29 °C)

Q = 37.60 kJ/°C × 2.29 °C = 86.1 kJ

According to the law of conservation of energy, the heat released by the candy has the same magnitude as the heat absorbed by the calorimeter.

Step 2: Convert 86.1 kJ to Cal

We will use the conversion factor 1 Cal = 4.186 kJ.

86.1 kJ × 1 Cal/4.186 kJ = 20.6 Cal

Step 3: Calculate the number of Cal per gram of candy

20.6 Cal/6.70 g = 3.07 Cal/g

Compare the rates of effusion for carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide gases
Airida [17]
According to Grahams law the rate of effusion of a gas is inversely proportional to the square root of it's molecular weight. The rate of diffusion is the measure of rate at which two gases mix. From this law we can say that for the two gases carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide, the rate of effusion of carbon monoxide is greater than that of carbon dioxide, this is because carbon monoxide is lighter (28 g) compared to carbon dioxide (44 g).

Match each statement with a layer of the atmosphere. There will be two statements for each layer.
LuckyWell [14K]

The troposphere:

H. This layer can have thunderstorms or clear, sunny skies.

A. The biosphere interacts most with this layer.

The stratosphere:

B. It is the second layer from Earth's surface.

G. Winds are strong and steady in this layer.

The mesosphere:

E. It is heated by the ozone layer beneath it.

D. This layer is where most meteor showers occur.

The thermosphere :

F. It contains the ionosphere and exosphere.

C. It contains layers of single, unmixed gas.

Explanation:

Depending on the Earth's temperature the atmosphere can be separated into layers. The troposphere, the stratosphere, the mesosphere and the thermosphere are those layers. The lowest layer is named as Troposphere (0-10 km from the Earth outer surface), it comprises about 75% of the atmosphere's total air and nearly most the water vapor.

Stratosphere (10-30) includes much of the surface ozone. The change in height temperature arises as this ozone absorbs ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun. The temperature in Mesosphere (30-50 Km) declines again with height, hitting a minimum of about -90 ° C at the "mesopause." Above this thermosphere (50-400 Km) is settled which is a area where temperatures rise with height once again. The penetration of intense UV and X-ray radiation from the sun induces this temperature rise.
