During the Yuan dynasty, Taoism suffered a significant setback when many copies of the Daozang were ordered to be burned. A form of internal alchemy called Neidan became a major religious sect in the Chinese tradition because of the colonization of the Mongols. Kublai Khan ended the Imperial Examination System because he believed that Confucian learning is no longer necessary for government jobs. The Mongol Empire established itself and imposed its rules in China which suppressed some of Chines practices and culture.</span>
