Simply stated, a creed is a symbol or confession of faith for a particular religion.

Each church or religious group follows a creed which may be more or less specific to it's members.

In Christianity, some examples of a creed are "Jesus is Lord" and “I believe in the holy catholic church.”

Additionally, in order for an excommunicated member to be reinstated as a bonafide member of the church, the individual must show a sign of repentance, renewal of obedience, or a profession of the creed in a catholic church.
