When Mathilde received the invitation to dinner she was very sad because she had no way to dress the height of the guests who would be present at the place, she was very afraid that people would perceive her poverty and judge her, make malicious comments and humiliate her on account of the poor appearance of her clothes. Even after she managed to get elegant clothes, jewelry and shoes to go to dinner, she still felt insecure, afraid that her manners would denounce her and she would suffer people's judgment.
