beacause timbuktu fell almost imeadiatley after its invasion it would not have been possible for an other kingdom to conquer it hold it off and loose it in such a short span. Dont belive just search "Morrocan invasion of Timbuktu"

First, the Americans were an invading force, and the Vietnamese were fighting on their own soil. Second, the Americans were not willing to make an all-out commitment to win.
