Shelley uses grim, dark symbolism to construct a Gothic feel in Frankenstein. Shelley incorporates the imagery of night in the plot and uses paranormal creatures, great villains like Frankenstein, and rotting sets for castles, churches, and graveyards, among other things, she uses other scary things like owl and bats in night.
