Answer: The answers to the question are as follows:

1. The complete sentence is as follows:

In the early to mid 1800s, Northern states had a thriving INDUSTRIAL economy. They relied heavily on MANUFACTURING as well as on finance. In contrast, southern states had fewer FACTORIES. Their economy focused on growing and EXPORTING cash crops.

During the period of 1800 in America, the country was divided into southern and northern regions. The south were majorly into agriculture and the major crop grown then was cotton. The economy of the south was flourishing then because of the revenues they got from exportation of cotton. The north on the other hand were majorly into manufacturing and they produce different products.

2. The characteristics of labour in Northern economy include the following:

The characteristics of labour in Southern economy include the following:

a. Enslaved workers sustained plantation farming.

The northern region of America specialized in commerce and manufacturing. To drive these companies, wage workers were usually recruited as production staff. These workers carried out different duties and they are paid according to their contributions to the production process. The southern region of America on the other hand relied heavily on slave workers for carrying out work on their agricultural plantations. These slaves are considered to be properties of the farmers, thus, they were not paid for their efforts and their welfare is usually of no importance to their owners.

3. The correct option is C: AS SETTLEMENT GREW IN THE WEST, SLAVERY INCREASED IN THE SOUTH.

In the early to middle 1800s, the slave population in the south spread west ward as a result of new lands opened for settlements through Louisiana purchase. Slaves were severed from their families and forced to move to new settlements. The opening up of the new settlements led to increase demand for slaves by new plantation farmers that settle there; these slaves were usually obtained from the southern part of the country, where slave trade had becoming the order of the day.

4. The statements that best described conditions in the Upper south were as follows:

a. More free African American workers.

b. More manumission of enslaved people.

Some of the crops grown include tobacco, wheat and vegetables. Farmers in this part do not grow cotton. There was also rise of industries in this part of the south. Manumission of slaves refers to the act of setting slaves free. There were more Manumission in the upper south region.

THE DEEP SOUTH

The deep south region was made up of states such as Texas, South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, etc. Cultivation of cotton is the major work in these areas, because of this increasing number of slaves were usually needed for cotton production.
