The action of crashing would lower the speed by at least half so 1.5 + 2.5 = 4. But since you do not know in which way they crashed I would just say that this question is not telling how much they slow down so, I would just do 5 m/s + 3 m/s = 8 m/s travelling in the direction Amy was moving but since the larger mass would move the smaller mass and adjust I'd say they are both moving at 3 m/s.

A leaking pond looses 18 gallons of water in 34 hours , how many gallons will be left after 41 hours
Ann [662]

The amount of water left = 21.3 gallons.

We have a leaking pond which looses 18 gallons of water in 34 hour.

We have to determine how many gallons of water will be left after 41 hours.

What do you understand by gallon?

The gallon is a unit of volume in imperial units and United States customary units.

I gallon = 231 cubic inches = 3.785411784 liters.

According to question, we have -

Amount of water lost by the pond in 34 hours = 18 gallons

Therefore -

Amount of water lost by the pond in 1 hour = \frac{18}{34}

So, the amount of water loosed by the pond in 41 hours = \frac{18}{34}\times 41 = 21.3

Hence, the amount of water left = 21.3 gallons.
